HERSHEY TRACK & FIELD YOUTH PROGRAM

Sponsored by the Onslow County Parks & Recreation Department the Local meet is scheduled for Tuesday June 1, 2010 with the rain date scheduled for Thursday June 3 at White Oak High School Track.  Registration for the meet will be from 5:00 – 5:30 p.m. with the meet beginning at 5:45 p.m.   Boys and Girls ages 9-14 (on December 31, 2010) are eligible to participate.  PROOF OF AGE is required at registration and a parent/guardian must sign the Participation Form. FISHING DERBY

Please bring your fishing pole and join the Onslow County Parks and Recreation Department and Wal-Mart for an exciting, fun filled day of fishing. Kids 4 to 16 are invited to test their fishing skills at the Fishing Derby from 9:00 to 12:00 am. Saturday June 5.  At The Jacksonville Training Academy Range off Hwy 17 S Dawson Cabin Road to 110 Stillwood Road.  Kids 12 years of age and younger must be accompanied by an adult! SUMMER DAY CAMP – Featuring a new six week educational and fun program

The Onslow County Parks and Recreation Department and the Onslow County Board of Education are sponsoring a Summer Day Camp Program at various school sites.  Campsites are: Dixon Middle School, Southwest Middle, Swansboro Middle, Hunters Middle and Summersill Elementary School. Registration held at Onslow Pines Park.  Session I will be held June 21 – July 9 Monday – Friday 7:45- 5:15 PM  Session II camp runs July 12-July 30 Cost is $85 per child per three week session with each additional child from the same family paying only $75 per child.  For more information, call 347-5332 or visit www.onslowcountync.gov/parks

Onslow County Parks and Recreation April Events

Spring Weekday Walking hosted by Onslow County Parks and Recreation, the City of Jacksonville and Onslow CHIP (Community Health Improvement Process) will step off on Thursday, April 1 at 12:15 p.m. Participants walking three times a week the months of April and May at the location of their choice will be eligible for lunch and door prizes. Specially prepared pizzas courtesy of Pizza Hut will be served on the final day, Friday, May 28, 2010.

Saturday, April 10, 2010 - Onslow Pines Spring 5K Trail Run & 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk

Onslow Pines Park, 1244 Onslow Pines Rd, Jacksonville, NC
Late Registration:             6:00 a.m.
Fun Run/Walk:                   7:00 a.m
5K Run:                               7:15 a.m.

BICYCLE RODEO

The Onslow County Parks & Recreation Department, Jacksonville Kiwanis Club, Kiwanis Club of Onslow County, The Bicycle Shop, Jacksonville Mall, Onslow County Sheriff’s Department, Jacksonville Police Department, Onslow County CHIP Prevention Committee and VFW Post 9133 will sponsor a Bicycle Rodeo for children ages 4-14 on Saturday, September 12, 2009. The rodeo will be held beside the Jacksonville Mall. The event will be from 8:30 am to 10:30 am. Event includes minor bike repairs, helmet fitting, bike skills course and bike registration. “CITY TO THE SEA” BIKE RIDE

The Onslow County Parks & Recreation Department, The Bicycle Shop, Food Lion, Pizza Hut and Hammocks Beach State Park will be sponsoring a leisure bike ride on Sunday, September 20. Registration for the free ride will begin at 1:30 p.m. and the ride will begin at 2:00 p.m. The ride will originate at the Food Lion parking lot on the corner of Piney Green and Halltown Roads and the ride will finish at Hammocks Beach State Park in Swansboro. An adult must accompany riders under the age of 18 years, and all riders are encouraged to wear a helmet during the ride. Dog Day In The Park

The Onslow County Parks and Recreation Department “Dog Day in the Park” will be held Saturday September 26, 2009 at Onslow Pines Park 9:00 am until noon. The event will offer Microchips, Dog Wash, Photo Contest (bring photo) and Obedience, Protection and K-9 Good Citizen Demonstrations. We are now accepting registration for the Dog Jog (one mile fun run/walk) cost is $10.00 fee includes T-shirt. Prizes will be awarded. Vendor space available for a $25.00 donation to C.A.R.T. Onslow County Adult Co-Rec Softball League

ADULT CO-REC SOFTBALL LEAGUE
An organizational meeting for the adult co-rec softball league will be held on Thursday, June 11th at 7 pm at the Onslow Pines Park Administrative Office. MUSICAL LUNCH SERIES
The Onslow County Parks and Recreation Department and the Onslow County Public Library are sponsoring a Musical Lunch Series starting Friday, May 1, 2009 and continuing every Friday through May 29. The performances will be held from 12:00 - 1:30 pm at the New River Waterfront Park in Jacksonville. If it is raining the concerts will still be held, but in the USO across the street. Drawings will be held for Pizza Hut coupons!

26th ANNUAL FREEDOM FESTIVAL
Onslow County Parks and Recreation is now accepting vendors for the 26th Annual Freedom Festival; Saturday July 4, 2009 at Onslow Pines Park. "Like Flint" will perform on stage at 5:30 p.m. Karaoke, Games & rides for children and other vendors will be on hand starting at 2:00 p.m. Fireworks display will be at 9:00 p.m. Children/Family games will be held at 4:30 p.m. Concessions will benefit the Non Commissioned Officers Association.
