Sneads Ferry's New Coffee House With Free Wi-Fi Internet

Yesterday afternoon I had the distinct pleasure to visit with Chris at the Trading Post Coffee House. It was quite refreshing to learn Sneads Ferry now has a brand new specialty coffee house for Cappucinno, Latte and Frapps as well a Chai Tea, Hot Chocolate and so much more!

From the welcoming friendly attitude by the staff to the relaxing atmosphere of the room, the Trading Post Coffee House makes for a great setting to enjoy a cup of coffee as well as the bagels, Muffins, scones and/or cinnamon rolls. Then there are a number of deserts for those wanting that something special later in the day like brownies (iced or with nuts), very berry deep dish tart, chocolate confusion cake, orange Florida sunshine, cheesecake (various) along with other homemade items. Whew!

Then there is that something special for the business person or just the one who must get to the Internet even when on vacation...

The Trading Post Coffee House offers FREE Wi-Fi Internet access! Just bring your laptop that is wi-fi enabled and sit down with a cup of the Trading Post Coffee House's fresh coffee to enjoy taking care of business or just surfing the web. What a great way to get away and still get online while the Internet portion is absolutely free. That's just a deal too good to pass up.

Now, before you think that the prices of drinks and food must be high, at the time of this writing coffee prices range from $1.25 for 12 oz regular coffee to $3.85 for 20 oz Cappuccino/Latte/Frapps. Prices for breakfast items and deserts are also very reasonably priced.

Bring the family or drop by with a friend or two, the Trading Post Coffee House is a great place to relax, unwind and get on the Internet if the mood strikes you.

Congratulations to Dixon High Men's Soccer!

Raleigh:

To capture the 1-A North Carolina State Men's Soccer Championship, the Dixon Bulldogs scored three second-half goals to rally from a 1-0 halftime deficit and defeat Polk County 3-1.

With Polk County grabbing a 1-0 advantage in the game’s first 10 minutes on a goal (Russell Kooistra), the Bulldogs retaliated with 2 of their own in a span of 3:35 early in the second half and then put it away with a goal with 4:25 to play. Cory Bowman of the Bulldogs tied the score at the 44:07 mark, and then freshman midfielder Cameron Pitz scored at 47:42 to give Dixon the lead for good. A goal by the speedy sophomore forward James Hansley late in the contest put it away for Dixon. Dixon played most of the game without its leading scorer, Sean Oliveira, who suffered a head injury and was unable to continue. Dixon’s balance and depth made the difference in the contest, especially in the second half. Dixon senior forward Justin Oliver, was voted the Most Valuable Player in the Championship. The Bulldogs earned their first NCHSAA men’s soccer championship in a rematch of the 2003 title game in which Polk beat the Bulldogs 2-1. Dixon ended the season with a record of 14-5-2 after being 4-4-2 at one point.

If you see coach Kevin Hicks, assistant coach Brown or any of the players, let them know that Sneads Ferry supports the Dixon Bulldogs and we are all so proud of them!

Candidate's Night in Sneads Ferry Cancelled

According to the SFCCChair, candidates night in Sneads Ferry, scheduled for Tuesday, October 24th at 7:00 p.m, has been cancelled due to lack of interest. Less than one hundred people turned out for the event last week, so only about half of the candidates were willing to return this week.

Incorporation Issue

We probably won't be hearing so much incorporation rhetoric in the coming months due to a prolonged delay in a referendum. According to the information provided at candidates night on October 17th, we won't be deciding on the issue until late 2007 or even 2008. The interim council is still preparing their package for submission and there is also an election coming up on November 7th, which means the board of elections is going to be extremely busy. The board of elections must certify all of the names on the incorporation petition before the package is submitted to Raleigh. Even though incorporation might not be the topic of everyday conversation, please remember, it will most likely go to referendum. SO BE REGISTERED TO VOTE AND GO VOTE WHEN IT COMES!!

Sneads Ferry People Enjoy Wilmington Riverfest!

It is that time of year when the festivals and fairs make those beautiful coastal Carolina nights that much more fun. Yes, the Wilmington Riverfest is going on in full bloom!

Although it is not right in Sneads Ferry, on Saturday, October 7, 2006 several of us from Sneads Ferry attended the Riverfest to take in the vendors, the shows (e.g. bands, jugglers and live shows), food concessions and more...

Of course we had to try out the cheese fries and the funnel cake. There was so much food there it was overwhelming. Also, the bands kept playing late into the night with a wide variety of music to fit most every taste. Here again, this family friendly event held true to form as fun for all including the bull riding, rock climbing and just good ole time on the river.

Special events occur each day of the fest to include: lighted flotilla, fireworks, skateboarding and so much more!

The following are pictures of just a small portion of the things to do while at the Riverfest.

NIP Rally, September 30, 2006

NIP "No Incorporation Please" hit another home run at its rally today. The petition signatures, voter registrations and donations were consistent with the two previous Saturday rallies. They also ran out of NIP yard signs and bumper stickers again and will look into getting more to meet the demand.

NIP will continue its Saturday rallies until everyone is reached who wants to sign-on to "Stop Incorporation of Sneads Ferry." Therefore, there will be another rally next Saturday, October 7, 2006, beginning at 9:00 AM and lasting as long as necessary. It will again be held on the vacant lot beside the Sneads Ferry post office on Highway 172.

Volunteers, please come out and help. Your help is valuable and essential to accomplish the mission.

Thanks,

Sneads Ferry No Incorporation Please - NIP

There has been a major upheaval in Sneads Ferry, NC these days as people are deciding whether or not to incorporate the town of Sneads Ferry.

Sneads Ferry Incorporation at Issue

Recently, there have been a number of rumors going around the town of Sneads Ferry regarding incorporation of the town and its benefits. Rather than rely on rumors, please investigate the facts including existing laws on the books before deciding whether incorporation is good or bad. See EncToday Forum thread on Sneads Ferry: Stop Incorporation....

Saturday, September 23, 2006:

Today's rally and signature drive far exceeded NIP's (NO INCORPORATION PLEASE) expectations. Even though the weather was quite windy, cloudy and drizzly, it didn't stop a large number of people from coming out and letting their voices be heard. The petition signatures, voter registrations and donations surpassed last week's, which was very impressive. As we were trying to leave around 5:30 PM, the people just kept on coming and we kept signing them up.

Since today's event was so successful, and we feel unfinished, as far as everyone getting an opportunity to sign on with us, we will continue the drive next Saturday, September 30. It will be at the same location, on the vacant lot beside the Sneads Ferry post office on hwy. 172, beginning at 9:00 AM and lasting until.....

We ask that volunteers please come out and help us on Saturday. We need all the volunteers that we can get and we appreciate all that all of you are doing to help.

Thanks to everyone for a job well done!
