Andy’s of Sneads Ferry Now Serves Frozen Custard

(Sneads Ferry, N.C.)-Andy’s, one of the Southeast’s fastest growing “fast casual” restaurants, is proud to announce that beginning Monday, June 12th they are adding a brand new item, frozen custard to their Sneads Ferry location.

Currently known as Andy’s Cheesesteaks & Cheeseburgers, the Mount Olive based company has changed its name to Andy’s Burgers, Shakes, and Fries. The name change comes with many other changes that the company plans to implement throughout 2008. Now those changes include frozen custard.

While Andy’s has always been the place to go for a great old fashioned hand dipped milkshake, they are now improving the quality of that great product by adding frozen custard.

To put it plainly, frozen custard is a premium ice cream that is smoother and creamier than any ice cream sold in North Carolina.

Andy’s plans on making Emma’s Frozen custard fresh several times a day by churning their own special blend of all-natural ingredients.

They will be serving shakes, sundaes, floats, malts, cones of custard, pints of fresh made custard, and Twist-rrr’s. Twist-rrr’s are similar to a blizzard or concrete; and along with shakes can be made with over 15 different mix-ins and toppings. Andy’s will be offering a fresh flavor of custard every day.

Founder Kenny Moore said,” This is the biggest thing we have done since cooking our first burger. I think the addition of frozen custard will take Andy’s to the next level. By adding frozen custard to all of our locations, we have become the second largest seller of frozen custard in the country.”

Andy’s is in the process of executing the most ambitious and aggressive rollout of frozen custard that any American company has ever tried. The results of that aggressive plan will make Andy’s the second largest seller of frozen custard in the country behind only Culver’s in the Midwest.

What is frozen custard?

Dating back to the early 1900’s, frozen custard is a cold dessert that is thought of as highly superior to ice cream, made with eggs in addition to cream and sugar. One main difference between custard and ice cream is the creation process.

Ice cream is made using a process called overrun, in which air is blended into the mixture of ingredients until its volume increases by approximately 100%, meaning half of the final product is composed of air. By comparison, custard is blended much slower and may have an overrun as low as 20%. The low percentage of overrun and the egg yolk give frozen custard a thick, creamy texture and a smoother, softer consistency when compared to ice cream. In addition, frozen custard is most often served at 18 degrees F rather than the -10 to -20 degrees at which ice cream is stored. The higher temperature allows you to really taste the goodness of the natural flavors without numbing your palate the way ice cream does.
