Andy’s of Sneads Ferry Now Serves Frozen Custard
Andy’s of Sneads Ferry Now Serves Frozen Custard
(Sneads Ferry, N.C.)-Andy’s, one of the Southeast’s fastest growing “fast casual” restaurants, is proud to announce that beginning Monday, June 12th they are adding a brand new item, frozen custard to their Sneads Ferry location.
Currently known as Andy’s Cheesesteaks & Cheeseburgers, the Mount Olive based company has changed its name to Andy’s Burgers, Shakes, and Fries. The name change comes with many other changes that the company plans to implement throughout 2008. Now those changes include frozen custard.
While Andy’s has always been the place to go for a great old fashioned hand dipped milkshake, they are now improving the quality of that great product by adding frozen custard.
To put it plainly, frozen custard is a premium ice cream that is smoother and creamier than any ice cream sold in North Carolina.
Andy’s plans on making Emma’s Frozen custard fresh several times a day by churning their own special blend of all-natural ingredients.
They will be serving shakes, sundaes, floats, malts, cones of custard, pints of fresh made custard, and Twist-rrr’s. Twist-rrr’s are similar to a blizzard or concrete; and along with shakes can be made with over 15 different mix-ins and toppings. Andy’s will be offering a fresh flavor of custard every day.
Founder Kenny Moore said,” This is the biggest thing we have done since cooking our first burger. I think the addition of frozen custard will take Andy’s to the next level. By adding frozen custard to all of our locations, we have become the second largest seller of frozen custard in the country.”
Andy’s is in the process of executing the most ambitious and aggressive rollout of frozen custard that any American company has ever tried. The results of that aggressive plan will make Andy’s the second largest seller of frozen custard in the country behind only Culver’s in the Midwest.
For more information about Andy’s please contact Alex Ramos at 919-635-0902 or visit www.andyscheesesteaks.com.
What is frozen custard?
Dating back to the early 1900’s, frozen custard is a cold dessert that is thought of as highly superior to ice cream, made with eggs in addition to cream and sugar. One main difference between custard and ice cream is the creation process.
Ice cream is made using a process called overrun, in which air is blended into the mixture of ingredients until its volume increases by approximately 100%, meaning half of the final product is composed of air. By comparison, custard is blended much slower and may have an overrun as low as 20%. The low percentage of overrun and the egg yolk give frozen custard a thick, creamy texture and a smoother, softer consistency when compared to ice cream. In addition, frozen custard is most often served at 18 degrees F rather than the -10 to -20 degrees at which ice cream is stored. The higher temperature allows you to really taste the goodness of the natural flavors without numbing your palate the way ice cream does.
About Andy’s
Andy’s offers a unique dining experience where customers enjoy fresh-cooked, quality food in a casual 50’s style diner setting. Since founder Kenny Moore opened the doors to the first Andy’s location in Goldsboro in 1991, the North Carolina burger chain has grown to over 100 locations across the state by providing outstanding food and first class customer service. For more information on Andy’s, please visit www.andyscheesesteaks.com or call 919-635-0902.

Bridge Work on Rt. 210 Nearing Completion
According to North Carolina Department of Transportation Resident Engineer Chad Kimes the bridge work on Rt. 210 near Rt. 17 should be completed by Friday, June 13, 2008.
This has been the cause for the rerouting of traffic from Rt. 210 between Rt. 17 and "4 Corners" in Sneads Ferry, North Carolina. Having the bridge open again is great news to many reducing the travel time getting out to Rt. 17 and/or Jacksonville, North Carolina.

Chimney Swift Tower, New to Sneads Ferry
When Jim Fulcher asked his wife, Virginia, what she wanted for Christmas last year, she said a Chimney Swift Tower. The requested gift was not the type of thing a woman can wear on her finger or dangle from her earlobes and definitely not easily shown to friends at lunch, but she had read in the Jacksonville Daily News that Chimney Swift habitat was declining in our area due to the capping of chimneys, loss of tree cavities and new construction methods. Virginia has always been impressed with the benefits Chimney Swifts, who are insectivores, offer our environment and mulled over the information contained in a Letter to the Editor long enough to feel compelled to do something about it. Jim and Virginia share a waterway enjoyed by an array of wildlife. For many years, the nature loving couple has continued to supplement wild birds’ diets and provide condos or gourds for Purple Martins when nesting time rolls around each spring. After going on the Internet and downloading schematics for a tower and an acceptable materials list from www.chimneyswifts.org, Jim recruited another builder to help him construct the tower. “It took a few weeks or more to complete the twelve-foot tower, due to waiting out wet weather conditions and allotting time for the concrete to thoroughly set up,” Jim told me when he called.
Although I hoped when putting out the word that chimney swifts were in need of alternate habitat to encourage them to return to our area, many months ago, I had no idea anyone had taken the “verbal” yellow flag and thrown it down. Jim invited me to Sneads Ferry to take a look at the tower he built for Virginia (and the Chimney Swifts, of course). My husband and I jumped in the car that day and within twenty five minutes I was absolutely thrilled to be standing next to a swift tower I had only dreamed someone would care enough to ask about, let alone build on their own. Jim sounded confident and proud when he said he “reinforced everything to ensure it will withstand hurricane force winds.” He dug a foundation platform so deep; he needed twenty bags of cement to fill it. Angled, iron girders (wider than the schematic called for) were set in place to form an extremely sturdy base. Finished this past week, the twelve-foot tall swift tower, which Chimney Swifts like better than the eight-foot according to something Jim read, stands in waiting along Swan Point off Stump Sound in Sneads Ferry. So “yes, Virginia, we can honestly say there is a Santa Claus, well . . . a Santa’s helper, also known as your husband,” who made this special and most unique Christmas present, a Chimney Swift Tower, happen. Virginia can’t wait for the first migratory Chimney Swift couple to show up from South America’s Amazon Basin and check out their new digs. Although, the tower is large enough to house quite a number of roosting pairs of swifts, Virginia says she will be thrilled to see just one couple this year. Most stories have a moral–this one has a few, but the one I like most is: The little things we do can make a very big and positive difference. When your words mean so much to someone else, they become powerful. You may or may not find out what effect or influence they've had, but just keep doing your part to make the world a better place and know others, like Jim and Virginia, will to.

CellularRE Signs on Century 21 in North Carolina for Text Message Marketing
Peekskill, NY, January 10, 2008 – JTLB Media, which owns and operates CellularRE, one of the leading Real Estate Cellular/Text Message Technology companies (www.CellularRE.com) announced today that the company has entered into a agreement with Sneads Ferry, North Carolina Based Century 21 Action Inc.
CellularRE, the leading company to offer text message and cellular marketing to the real estate industry, announced it has signed on Century 21 Action Inc as a client and will roll out its Cellular and text message marketing program to the Sneads Ferry,
“We are extremely excited about working with Century 21 Action--a leader in real estate--and helping them to promote their properties in the
“Being the leader in cellular real estate technology, people expect instantaneous information, and we are pleased to bring Real Estate Listings instantly to their customer base through our cellular technology,” says Dean Steinman, CEO of CellularRE.
Through its text message technology, an agent can send out a text message alerting any customer in their database about a new listing that just came on the market. Within 1-3 minutes (depending on carrier), the customer will receive a text message via the cell phone/ or PDA describing the property, including price, size, location, number of bedrooms and baths for residential properties. For commercial space, clients will get texted price per square foot and amenities.
The customer can then click on a link on their phone which will bring them automatically to a wireless website that was built for that listing (through the admin/ software program Cellular RE provides them to use online), and they can view photos, floor-plans and more in-depth listing information. If the customer is interested in the property and desires to see it right away, the customer can click another link right on the text message or wireless website on their phone, and the broker/agent/builder will be dialed immediately to schedule the appointment. This can be done with hundreds of listings per month.
Additionally, when a person drives or walks by a house for sale, apartment for rent, store, or office space for lease, he will see a sign that Cellular RE supplies the agent that has a keyword and a Text Number on it (i.e. Text CellRE101 to 917-324-0252). By texting this into their phone within 1-3 minutes the person will get a text message back with basic listing information. From there they can get click one link on their cell phone and get a wireless website right on their phone that has photos, floor plans, and in-depth listing information.
In addition, CellularRE is working on a new technology to allow cell phone users to see video tours of the home/apartment that they are interested in. “We are very excited to be taking the Cellular marketing of properties to the next level by including video tours though the cell phone,” says Dean Steinman, chief executive officer, CellularRE.
Cellular RE charges a Real Estate office a monthly fee for this complete Cellular marketing service. Depending on how many properties they want to market will dictate the price. For example, 1 listing is $14.99 per month, 5 properties/listings per month is only $20 per month but can be sent out on an unlimited basis. 12 properties/listings per month is $39 and can be sent out on an unlimited basis, and unlimited properties/listings per month are only $159 and can be sent out on an unlimited basis.

Keeping Christ In Christmas
As the end of the year draws near, people are running to the malls and stores to do their shopping. Each is trying to find the perfect gift for family and friends. Now I'm rather certain there are plenty who will read this post that do not believe in God or Jesus Christ. For those who believe this way and choose not to participate in Christmas, your beliefs are your own.
For those who profess to believe in Jesus Christ and do not stop to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas, please do so. I hold the belief that God gave us his only son to show us the important things of this world. I often see how science continually locates "missing pieces" of history further proving specific segments of the Bible.
Last night I stayed up late to see the Geminids meteor shower which helped reinforce my belief in God and how much he must care for us to provide so much.
I ask each of you reading this post to stop a moment and remember what this season is all about. Remember the closing of one year and the beginning of a new. A most of all do unto others... It makes for a great way of life for us all!
Watching The Geminids From Sneads Ferry North Carolina
Last night my younger son and I went outside to watch the stars. The "special reason" for this was to see the yearly occurence of the Geminids meteor showers. As I understand it, the Geminids return each year somewhere around December 12-14 with one of the most dramatic meteor showers to be seen throughout the year.
It seems they arrive from the Gemini constellation which is just left (e.g. North) and down of where Mars shines in our night sky. Last night's show was spectacular.
Living near the water gave my son and I a fantastic opportunity to watch as the shooting stars came by as often as 2-3 per minute. Of course, some where brighter and longer lasting than others. Cloud cover has mostly dissipated making it easier to spot them in so many directions similar to watching a tremendous fireworks display. Who better than God to offer such a fireworks display?
As my son decided he was getting tired and returned inside, I refilled my coffee cup, kissed him goodnight, regrouped and went back out. It dawned on me how seldom we stop to really appreciate such things. This was the first meteor shower I had really taken in such as this. With this realization, I lay in the truck bed gazing at the stars and enjoyed what was placed in front of me thinking life is good...
Prior to all of this I had tried to contact friends and let them know about the upcoming event. As I understand it, some made plans to watch. I only hope they got as much out of the show as I.

Will North Carolina Government Help NC Commercial Fishing Industry?
If you have read or know anything about the North Carolina fishing industry and the fishermen, you already know about the downward spiral of their businesses. Recently, I read another important article in the Fayetteville Observer titled Our View: Government can help save our state’s dying fishing industry.
When you think of the support given farmers (another group having a hard time), why does it not make sense to help in similar fashion our state's commercial fishermen? To me, it makes perfect sense to work towards preserving an industry that supports the local economy as well as bring us much better tasting seafood than the imports ever can!
Please take a moment to read the article in the Observer and, if you agree, contact your governmental leaders to state your opinion. The politicians work for us and need to know what we want for our great state.
The choice is yours!
