Sneads Ferry Traffic Just Got Worse

As if traffic wasn’t already bad enough In Sneads Ferry, it just got worse !!

1.  Wheeler Creek Bridge will be closed about Friday of this week, it was supposed to have been finished last Friday but pilings had to be driven deeper, support beams added under the bridge to the new pilings, etc., and then more pavement needs to be added, so we will have to drive around from Sneads Ferry Road for about another week.

2.  A sewer line is still being installed on Hwy 172 (from SF Rd. to Hwy 210) so occasionally that is down to one lane.

3.  Although the Sneads Ferry Community Council has asked the Base to open both of the ingress lanes into the Base, Military traffic just gets worse and worse every morning and every afternoon ….

And now …. NCDOT is working on patching holes and widening Hwy 210 from Hwy 172 to the Dixon Elementary School Rd.  They will also lengthen the LEFT turn lane from Hwy 210 onto Hwy 172. I drove by this morning and Hwy 210 was down to one lane between Hwy 172 and Dixon Elementary.

Also, at some point in the future, once funded, they will come back, survey, move utilities, etc and add a RIGHT turn lane from Hwy 172 onto Hwy 210.

According to the NCDOT District Office, the project (not including the addition of the right turn lane from Hwy 172 onto Hwy 210) is supposed to be finished by Nov., 2010 !!

Jeeze Louise !!!!  November is 7 months away and if the RIGHT turn lane is funded, I suppose that will take us into next year.

Bridge Work on Rt. 210 Nearing Completion

According to North Carolina Department of Transportation Resident Engineer Chad Kimes the bridge work on Rt. 210 near Rt. 17 should be completed by Friday, June 13, 2008.

This has been the cause for the rerouting of traffic from Rt. 210 between Rt. 17 and "4 Corners" in Sneads Ferry, North Carolina. Having the bridge open again is great news to many reducing the travel time getting out to Rt. 17 and/or Jacksonville, North Carolina.
