Sneads Ferry Growing Pains (or New Homes vs. Commercial Fishing)

Sneads Ferry North Carolina has long been a commercial fishing community (ex: crabbing, clamming, shrimping and fishing). With the growing influx of new home owners in Sneads Ferry (a.k.a. Stump Sound) and especially the percentage purchasing waterfront property, the rights between land owners and commercial fishermen are a hotly debated issue (see JDNews article Sneads Ferry continues to face growing pains by Joe Miller).

With Sneads Ferry situated along the New River and the Intracoastal Waterway (ICWW), the quiet little fishing village is growing quickly. Potential waterfront home buyers looking at coastal areas both north and south see the value of Sneads Ferry's waterfront. This coupled with the newer roads in the area make for an enticing scenario.

All of this leaves the Onslow County Board of Commissioners in the middle to decide the fate for all concerned.
